On this week’s tactics podcast, the panel concluded that even though Manchester United won on Saturday against Chelsea, and even though it was a must-win game for Ruben Amorim, it’s difficult to attribute that to any tactical decisions made by the manager.
Amorim has come under a lot of criticism for the use of his system and his in-game substitutions and management, but was bullish after the victory against the London side at the weekend, praising his side’s high-tempo start. Wayne Barton, Tony Bryson and Mike Pieri as always evaluated the game and discussed the merits of Amorim attempting to claim the positives from the start – as Bryan Mbeumo’s run on to a Benjamin Sesko flick was undoubtedly the turning point.
However, all found it difficult to praise the manager too much after a pragmatic response to playing against ten men and a negative approach in the second half.
